Creative Mission

COMPREHENSIVE CREATIVE CREATIVITY

Our "Creative Mission" is to foster a rich, interdisciplinary dialogue that will convey and forge new tools and applications for creative, critical and philosophical thinking; engaging the world in the process. Through workshops, tutorials and social media platforms we also strive to entertain, educate and empower people - from individuals, to businesses, governments or not-for-profit groups; we aim to guide them in building a base of constructive ideas, skills and a Brain Fit paradigm - thereby setting the stage for a sustainable, healthy, and creative approach and lifestyle . These synthesized strategic "Critical Success Factors" - can then give rise to applied long-term life or business - Operating Living Advantages and Benefits.

And, at the same time, we encourage Charlie Monger's key attitude and belief - for and with all of whom we reach - " develop into a lifelong self-learner through voracious reading; cultivate curiosity and strive to become a little wiser (and more grateful)* everyday."

Another QUARTER - Another RECORD!

Again, International Readership recorded a spectacular quarter, by achieving a record quarterly increase of 168% or 96,306  in the Second Quarter; bringing the total for the year to 145,671. First Quarter growth was 35,945. Back in July results were just over 13,940, which means that growth to-date was an amazing 1052.4%  in just six short  months.

What else is new? Well, with the combined efforts of our creative team, we completed a Workshop Promotional Video highlighting our upcoming program at The519 in Toronto. As well, we have began the Storefront for our on-line site that should be up and running in 90  days.

What else? Next month we should have all the co-ordinates for our new corporate address in downtown Toronto as we march towards rapidly expanding our International base, media platforms and service deliverables.

#Theguardian - Why We #Sleep by Matthew Walker - Book Review

How more sleep can save your life

A neuroscientist has found a revolutionary way of being cleverer, more attractive, slimmer, happier, healthier and of warding off cancer – a good night’s shut-eye

Awake at 4.30am the other morning, having been roused from sleep by my four-year-old son climbing into bed with my wife and me (a more or less nightly occurrence), I found myself sitting up and reading about the effects of insufficient sleep. It has been making me stupider, fatter, unhappier, poorer, sicker, worse at sex, as well as more likely to get cancer, Alzheimer’s and to die in a car crash. At the same time, my lack of sleep has been slowly but inexorably shrinking a) my chances of living into my mid 60s, b) my testicles. READ MORE.

Tai chi is often described as "meditation in motion," but it might well be called "medicationin motion." There is growing evidence that this mind-body practice, which originated in China as a martial art, has value in treating or preventing many health problems. And you can get started even if you aren't in top shape or the best of health. READ MORE.

Can you grow your #hippocampus? Yes. Here’s #how, and #why it matters

By: Dr. Majid Fotuhi

hippocampus_brain

A pair of thumb-sized structures deep in the center of the human brain are critical for our ability to learn and remember. Thanks to their shape, each of them is called hippocampus — which means seahorse in Greek. These brain areas have the unique capacity to generate new neurons every day. In fact, recent human studies have shown that there are 700 new brain cells in the hippocampus every day. Most of these neurons, however, do not survive. In their new-born (pre-mature) phase, they need a great deal of support to survive, grow, and become an active member of the hippocampal community of neurons. READ MORE.

Why are we here? Why was I created? What’s the purpose of this thing called life?

To artists, whose essential purpose is creation, these grand questions are felt profoundly — the human condition is our stock in trade, even if it’s incredibly privileged to ponder it as one’s profession. As millions struggle to make enough money to eat, we struggle to make art. This is why every serious artist, at some point, questions: is what I do useful, or relevant to everyone — or is it simply luxurious?

As a creative writing practitioner and teacher, I wrestle with this constantly. READ MORE.

#SUCCESS: Warren #Buffett: The Three Things I Look For in a Person

Image result for warren buffett

Students often go to visit Warren Buffett. And when they do, he often plays a little game on them.
He asks each student to pick a classmate. Not just any classmate, but the classmate you would choose if you could have 10% of their earnings for the rest of their life. Which classmate would you pick and why?
“Are you going to pick the one with the highest IQ?” asks Buffett. “Are you going to pick the guy who can throw a football the farthest? The one with the highest grades? What qualities will cause you to pick them?”
Then he changes things up again. Who would you think least likely to succeed? Why? READ MORE.

“No #Art Comes From the #Conscious Mind.” Steve Martin

“No art comes from the conscious mind.” Steve Martin

Steve Martin on crafting a joke, the importance of the moment, and letting the story guide you.

By Catherine Clinch.
There is something wonderful about the notion of being able to trace the entire essence of who you are to a single influence. For Steve Martin, the moment of his creation happened when he took a teenager’s job in the Magic Shop at Disneyland and met a man who made animals out of balloons.
“Wally Bogue was an entertainer at Disneyland that I used to watch. He was a very funny, likable guy, and I thought that’s what I want to be—a funny, likable guy. Well, I got funny…” and funny led him on a circuitous route to writing, and writing enabled him to create stories imbued with such charm and wit that he is known to be one of the most likable men in the entertainment industry. Remember, That Old #Adage "Health Is #Wealth"

"Salutem est divitiae"
Health is Wealth

Everyone is familiar with the famous adage "health is wealth", but few actually understand its complexities as a perception. Health is about the state of a person's body, that it is free from injury, illness and pain. If you dig deeper into the topic, you will discover that it's mainly about physical and mental fitness. Both these concepts are strongly correlated, hence should be comprehended meticulously if one wants to live a healthy life. Read More.

A question I’m often asked is, “Does all critical thinking lead to deeper understanding?”
Like so many questions in education, the answer is probably, “it depends.” At its heart, critical thinking is about taking content apart to examine the parts in relation to the whole—and how each of those parts work separately and together. This is called building schema. For example, if you want your students to collect and use data during a science investigation, they must first understand all of the components that comprise an investigation—how and what to measure, the proper way to record the data and control variables, and how to organize and interpret the data collected. Classical #Rhetoric 101: The Three Means of #Persuasion

winston churchill giving speech in parliament glasses and suit

Of the modes of persuasion furnished by the spoken word there are three kinds. The first kind depends on the personal character of the speaker; the second on putting the audience into a certain frame of mind; the third on the proof, or apparent proof, provided by the words of the speech itself.

Below we cover the basics of the three means of persuasion and offer a few suggestions on how to implement them into your rhetorical arsenal. And because this aspect of rhetoric is so meaty, I’ve also included suggestions for further reading for those who wish to learn more about each element (I’ll provide a reading list for exploring the subject of rhetoric as a whole in the last post of the series).

A Stoic’s Key to Peace of Mind: #Seneca on the Antidote to #Anxiety

seneca

There are more things … likely to frighten us than there are to crush us; we suffer more often in imagination than in reality.”

“The truth is, we know so little about life, we don’t really know what the good news is and what the bad news is,”Kurt Vonnegut observed in discussing Hamlet during his influential lecture on the shapes of stories. “The whole process of nature is an integrated process of immense complexity, and it’s really impossible to tell whether anything that happens in it is good or bad,” Alan Watts wrote a generation earlier in his sobering case for learning not to think in terms of gain or loss. And yet most of us spend swaths of our days worrying about the prospect of events we judge to be negative, potential losses driven by what we perceive to be “bad news.” In the 1930s, one pastor itemized anxiety into five categories of worries, four of which imaginary and the fifth, “worries that have a real foundation,” occupying “possibly 8% of the total.” Read More.

Inspirations of passions

Make your interests gradually wider and more impersonal, until bit by bit the walls of the ego recede, and your life becomes increasingly merged in the universal life. An individual human existence should be like a river — small at first, narrowly contained within its banks, and rushing passionately past rocks and over waterfalls. Gradually the river grows wider, the banks recede, the waters flow more quietly, and in the end, without any visible break, they become merged in the sea, and painlessly lose their individual being.
