Teenagers using cannabis are causing "long-lasting damage" to their developing brains, a Canadian study suggests.
It found the impact on thinking skills, memory and behaviour was worse than that of teenage drinking.
The researchers, from the University of Montreal, urged teenagers to delay their use of cannabis for as long as they felt able. The study tracked and tested 3,800 adolescents over four years, starting from around the age of 13.
Drinking alcohol and taking drugs, such as cannabis, at a young age is known to cause problems with cognitive abilities such as learning, attention and decision-making as well as academic performance at school. This study found these problems increased as cannabis use increased - and the effects were lasting, unlike those of alcohol. “Every day at Amazon is Day 1,” according to its CEO Jeff Bezos. He has reminded employees of this for decades -- Amazon will never stop being a startup. He even went so far as to name a building on Amazon's campus Day 1, and when Bezos switched buildings the name followed him to his new building.
Bezos thinks this focus is a necessity considering what happens on Day 2, once the startup times are over. Read More.

Balanced #Fitness, Tougher Brain

A short meditation can make you stronger in the place you need it most.

Most of us like the idea of meditating more than we like to do it. When sitting still in a quiet room, it’s hard to shake the feeling that we should have a pair of dumbbells in our hands. Fact is, if you want to better your fitness efforts, it’s time to reconsider how training your brain can improve your workouts in the gym.
Elizabeth Stanley, Ph.D., is an Army veteran, an associate professor at Georgetown University and the creator of a system called Mindfulness-based Mind Fitness Training (MMFT). She believes that combining meditation and exercise can more efficiently create changes in the brain that make you better able to tolerate stress. And that’s what a good workout is — a stress-generating event. Read More.

Raimundus Lullus (Ramon Llull)
Probably in 1232, philosopher, logician, Franciscan tertiary and Catalan writer Ramon Llull (Anglicised Raymond Lully, Raymond Lull; in Latin Raimundus or Raymundus Lullus or Lullius) was born. He is credited with writing the first major work of Catalan literature Recently surfaced manuscripts show his work to have predated by several centuries prominent work on elections theory. He is also considered a pioneer of computation theory, especially given his influence on Leibniz.[2]
“For a long time I have struggled to seek the truth in this and other ways, and by God’s grace I have come to a good end and to the knowledge of the truth which I longed to know and which I laid down in my books, but I am without consolation because I could not finish what I so much desired and for which I have worked for thirty years, and also because my books are little valued, yes – I tell you also – because many people even consider me a fool”. — Ramon Llull.  Read More

Inspirations of passions

Make your interests gradually wider and more impersonal, until bit by bit the walls of the ego recede, and your life becomes increasingly merged in the universal life. An individual human existence should be like a river — small at first, narrowly contained within its banks, and rushing passionately past rocks and over waterfalls. Gradually the river grows wider, the banks recede, the waters flow more quietly, and in the end, without any visible break, they become merged in the sea, and painlessly lose their individual being.
